Lou Smit was a highly respected American detective known for his work on several high-profile criminal cases. Smit gained significant recognition for his investigation into the JonBenét Ramsey case, a high-profile murder of a six-year-old girl in Boulder, Colorado, in 1996. He disagreed with the local police's initial theory that the family was involved, instead positing that an intruder was responsible. Smit's intruder theory was supported by certain pieces of evidence, although the case remains officially unsolved.
